Politicians and social media pundits have received a strong warning to exercise caution when posting anything online from Interior Minister Hon. Henry Quartey.
Politicians, party officials, and party supporters are actively promoting their party’s candidature on social media as the 2024 election approaches.

Hon. Henry Quartey, however, has disclosed that the Ghana Police Service is keeping an eye on social media and will detain anyone who tweets anything dangerous on the election.

Speaking during his first visit as Interior Minister, he said that Ghana has long enjoyed peace and that he would not allow anyone to undermine it. He was speaking at the Police Headquarters.

He claims that individuals browse social media while lounging in the comfort of their homes.

Individuals sit in the comfort of their own rooms and make threats that we will use machetes to chop them to pieces on election day. The law states that if someone makes those comments, we will pursue them. The public should not be agitated by your words or actions, nor should they be made to feel afraid or afraid.

We must use caution when expressing our beliefs about free speech, free association, and free movement so as not to incite dread and terror.
