According to Mr. Thomas Kusi Boafo, the Chief Executive Officer of Public Sector Reforms, he signed documents to raise the cost of passports in Ghana and stop “goro” guys from taking advantage of the government.
In addition, he clarified, the action is meant to guarantee that the passport office receives a printer capable of printing 1200 passports every hour.
Speaking on the Wontonumi Morning Show, Mr. Thomas Kusi Boafo said he met with stakeholders to learn about the difficulties the passport office was facing and then drafted a concept note to ask the World Bank for $2 million.

“When I asked what they wanted, they told me systems and software, and I agreed to sign the agreement. With the help of an uncomplicated concept note, we applied for funding from the World Bank to purchase the necessary machines. However, you must provide justification before receiving the funds,” he stated.

Additionally, Mr. Thomas Kusi Boafo mentioned a few Western African nations that charged higher acquisition prices than Ghana.

He believed that Ghana should start charging “realistic” fees for the document and start printing passports on schedule.
