The Agona Nsaba Magistrate’s Court punished three former prisoners who stole cassava valued at GHC1,800.00 to six months of hard labor apiece.

According to reports, the prisoner pilfered agricultural products from Agona Nyakrom farmer Emmanuel Fenyn.

The offenders, Ernest Saakwa (35), Emmanuel Amoaning (33), and Yaw Oboom (32), entered guilty pleas to the charges of theft and conspiring to commit a crime. The sentencing for both charges was mandated by the court to run concurrently.

The three had previously dealt with the law. The same court had sentenced them to three months in prison for plantain theft before to this event.

Following an investigation, they were arraigned, leading to their conviction and sentencing.

The sentencing of the ex-convicts has sparked mixed reactions, with some Ghanaians on social media describing it as harsh, arguing the convicts might simply be hungry.

But others say they appear to be notorious thieves because of their track record.
