The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abubakari Mahama II has called on Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to run a clean campaign.
He claimed that the leader of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Dramani Mahama, ought to be treated as a brother.
The Ya-Na claims that doing this will guarantee a clean campaign in advance of the general elections in 2024.
Dr. Bawumia paid the Ya-Na a courtesy call as part of his “Thank you tour,” and the Ya-Na made a point of emphasising that both the NDC and NPP flagbearers are his sons.
He went on to say that the winner of the general election would restore the presidency back to the northern part of Ghana, meaning that everyone in the north would benefit.
“As Northerners, we owe it to all Ghanaians to be appreciative of their belief that a Northerner will be the sole leader of Ghana after 2024. We have a great chance to show off our skills, knowledge, integrity, and commitment to advancing Ghana.
“In this election, my son, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, who is also a son, is running alongside you; he is not your opponent or competition.
“He is your older brother, a former Ghanaian president, and he is running for reelection with the support of our nation’s biggest opposition party.
“Whoever we elect will bring the trophy home, so as northerners, we have already won the election.The Dagbon Overlord’s remark comes after the former president and the vice president traded barbs and insults with one another on Twitter.
