]Kennedy Agyapong rejects handshake from NPP MPs in parliament (VIDEO)

Kennedy Agyapong was shown refusing to shake hands with other members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) side of the house in widely circulated video.

His fellow politicians muttered to themselves and made expressive motions in response to this glaring departure.

Unverified reports imply possible relationship to supposed unhappiness resulting from their alleged non-support in the party’s recent flagbearership election, while the exact reasoning for Agyapong’s decision is still unclear.

Kennedy Agyapong, the esteemed member of parliament for the Assin Central district in the Central Region, is shown prominently in the legislative chamber in the video recording. Many of his colleagues, who appear to be making polite small talk, come up to him and hold out their hands, probably as way of saying “welcome” after he ran in the last election.

Astonished spectators watched as Agyapong declined to return the favour, putting his teammates in strange position of unfulfilled friendship.

Unfortunately, the linguistic subtleties that go along with this incident are not captured in the film, so it is unclear why he is acting in such an unusual way.

On the other hand, another video appears that shows Agyapong relaxedly positioned on the minority side of the parliamentary aisle.

Here, he had friendly conversations characterised by handshakes and laughter with members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Notably, the NDC MPs were unable to affect Agyapong’s election result because they did not compete in the NPP presidential primaries.

Concerns over internal party cohesion are raised by the purported claim that Agyapong’s unwillingness to shake hands in return is due to his colleagues’ apparent lack of support for him during the NPP presidential primary.

The circumstances surrounding the presidential primary, in which Agyapong placed second with 37.41% of the vote, imply the presence of

of possible divisions inside the party.

With 61.47% of the vote, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged as the clear winner of the primaries, indicating a sizable mandate from the party’s voters.

With other candidates earning marginal percentages, the NPP must urgently cultivate true unity within its ranks as the crucial general elections of 2024 draw near.
